Outstanding Production

Last year Stones Throw records released MED’s solo debut, Push Comes to Shove. Unfortunately, the album didn’t seem to get the attention it deserved. Lyrically, the album is far from a classic. MED is a quite capable emcee, but he doesn’t live up to his potential anywhere on the set. Instead, the real star of Push Comes to Shove is the production. 14 of the album’s 18 songs are produced by underground favourite Madlib. The remaining tracks come from the minds of Jay Dee, Oh No, and Just Blaze. To say the production is incredible would be an understatement. Songs like “Push,” “Yeah,” and “Get Back” are straight bangers guaranteed to get your head moving. Madlib shines throughout the album, proving to listeners that they can continue to expect heat from him. Give it a listen, it will get you excited about the upcoming Madvillain release.
