Good, Dumb, Fun Rock

Sometimes you just need an album that you can listen to, "rock out" a little bit, and not think about it. It's like going to the movies to watch Anchorman instead of the latest Merchant-Ivory period piece (or better yet a Steven Soderbergh stinker). The Kaiser Chief's have certainly created such a record with Employment. It's straightforward pop that refuses to apologize for what it is (or isn't). I remember when I first heard "I Predict a Riot", I couldn't wait to hear more. Although Employment doesn't live up to the initial catchiness of the its first single, it remains a fairly solid effort. There's nothing new or groundbreaking on the disc, but it's certain to keep you entertained (at least for a little while).
